[Illinois] Hope For Every Afghan Child Gala

Saturday, April 30th

Illini Union ABC Rooms

Hours: 7 to 10PM

The Afghanistan War has continued for two decades, exacerbated by the withdrawal of U.S. troops in 2021. As Afghanistan battles its ongoing socio-economic crisis, a worldwide pandemic, and food insecurity, over 9.7 million Afghan children remain vulnerable. The Afghan population has faced natural disasters, which has claimed more innocent lives. Afghanistan’s collapsing government has failed to address malnutrition and the increasing health challenges of its civilians. International donors have suspended most non-humanitarian funding and frozen billions of dollars in assets, considering the country’s fragile economic state. Without this critical funding, millions of Afghan women and children are forcibly being displaced. UNICEF is providing emergency relief to children and families impacted in Afghanistan. To do our part, UNICEF at UIUC is hosting its sixth annual Gala, Hope For Every Afghan Child, to raise funds and awareness for children in need.

Our Hope for Every Afghan Child Gala will be held on April 30th, 2022 at the Illini Union ABC Rooms, starting at 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm. This event will consist of dinner, speeches, a Q&A panel, performances, and a silent auction.

During the silent auction, guests will silently bid on a piece of paper and we will collect the final results before the event has come to a close. However, this can only be possible through the help of other artists willing to donate artwork for our Gala. As a result, we want to reach out and see if there are any students willing to donate art pieces from your organization!

Hosting this Gala is a way for us to raise awareness and funds for the war in Afghanistan. For this reason, we are currently seeking help from the campus community. Every child deserves the right to enjoy their childhoods without disruption. Please join our cause as we actively work to diminish the impacts of this crisis.

Thank you for taking the time to read through this. If you are interested in participating or have any questions, please contact unicefuiucgala@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
