[Champaign-Urbana, Illinois–March 8] The University YMCA is pleased to present “Dust In Their Veins: A Visual Response to the Global Water Crisis,” works by Candace Hunter. The exhibition is on view in the Y’s Murphy Gallery from March 8 through May 6, 2018 and is part of the University YMCA’s Art @ the Y program, a public arts initiative that promotes reflection and discussion on issues of social justice, interfaith action, environmental protection, and global engagement.
Candace Hunter is a visual artist in Chicago, creating collage, paintings, and installations that often interweave text. She tells stories through the use of appropriated materials from popular magazines, vintage maps, and resourced materials, offering them back to the viewer with a sense of history and admiration of the beautiful. By squaring off the division between the realm of memory and the realm of experience, she absorbs the tradition of remembrance art into daily practice. This storytelling is important as an act of meditation and mediation.
Candace Hunter has been honored with the prestigious 3Arts Award for her commitment to the Arts and her Art Practice. Her work is currently on view at the Chicago Cultural Center, the Museum of Science and Industry and the South Side Community Art Center.
“Dust In Their Veins: A Visual Response to the Global Water Crisis” is a mixed media exhibition by Candace Hunter, bringing discussion and action to the plight of women and children who are adversely affected by the lack of clean water – the lack can be due to a plethora of problems, from ecological to living in conflict areas of the world.
