Champaign, Illinois – The Champaign Center Partnership and event sponsor, the Illini Union, are pleased to present Chow Down in Campustown on Thursday, May 30 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. This free event to launch the 13 Thursdays summertime promotion of Campustown includes food samples at participating restaurants, sidewalk sale shopping, and family-friendly activities including Chalk the Quad and an outdoor movie on the Quad at 9pm.
“We are excited to welcome the Chambana community to Chow Down in Campustown,” stated Veronica Severini, Champaign Center Partnership Marketing and Events Coordinator. “Our committee has been hard at work the past few months to plan this event that gives the community a chance to try a taste of Campustown and enjoy fun activities on the Quad once school is out for the summer.”
Event check-in will open at 4:30 p.m. on May 30th at the JSM kiosk on Green Street (next to McDonald’s) and at the Alma Mater. Pick up your event map and passport at one of the check-in stations, then take a self-guided culinary tour through Campustown. Over 20 restaurants will feature free food samples from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Featured samples include: savory crepe bites, ice cream, mini acai bowls, bubble tea, tikka chicken bites and more.
Evening programming includes sidewalk chalk art and crafts on the Quad, and the Illini Union will show How to Train Your Dragon 3 at 9:00 p.m. as part of its Summer Quad Cinema Series. The full Chow Down in Campustown event schedule is available at: Champaigncenter.com/chowdown-in-campustown
