McDonald is a one of the well-known fast food industry in the world. It is a global phenomenon. Wherever you go, McDonald is always your desperation choice in case the local food just simply does not fill up your appetite.
While many McDonald’s restaurants around the world serve the signature burger like “Big Mac”, and McDonald’s only fries, many global outposts offer completely different items. Many are specific to each country’s cuisines – and most look far more interesting and often should serve on the American menu.
These are some items you can order should you find yourself in an international McDonald’s.
India: McAloo Tikki
The one and only McAloo Tikki served in India and continues to woo Indian hearts. It is a fried potato and pea patty with special Indian spices coated with breadcrumbs in a bun. Also served with sweet tomato mayo, fresh onions, and tomatoes.
Often very popular among Middle East countries and it is considered as a standard fast food. McFalafel is filled with balls of chickpeas tossed into vats of sizzling oil and served with pickles and salads inside a pitta bread.
Japan: Black Burger
The Black Burger can only be found in Japan and it may seem weird and expect something horrible. Based on the reviews, the burger actually tastes excellent, as far as fast food goes. The crunchy onions paired with orange cheese, and wonder why the buns are black? Well, hamburger bun is dyed with squid ink!
Japan: Mega Teriyaki Burger
Looking for high protein but something fast? Mega Teriyaki burger serves the perfect purpose! The burger features two beef patties drenched in a sweet teriyaki sauce, fresh lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, and mayo. Only the teriyaki-lovers try this burger since nobody can handle the mess afterward.
Japan: Pumpkin Spice Fries
Halloween is just around the corner! McDonald’s Japan is doling out French fries drizzled with a pumpkin spiced sauce and chocolate sauce. The sweet and savory fries mark the beginning of the Halloween celebration.
Korea: Bulgogi Burger
Bulgogi is one of the traditional food in South Korea and McDonalds has used it make it into a burger. Inside the burger has the pork patty with the Bulgogi marinade, lettuce, and mayo. It may sound very basic but it does taste sweet and salty in some ways. A fair warning that the burger may be sticky to eat if you are not careful enough.
Middle East: McArabia
Another popular menu in the Middle East McDonald’s – McArabia. Just as it sounds, the burger is served in the Middle East countries. Take kofta, a savory meatloaf, or known as chicken filets. The burger consists of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and garlic mayo and serves in a thicker, Arabic-style pita. If you ever find yourself in the Middle East, try and get your hands on a McArabia!
Philippines: Chicken McDo with Spaghetti
Chicken with spaghetti? It may sound an odd combination but why not give it a chance to try it! When you go to the Philippines, you can order one crispy drumstick with spaghetti and meat sauce. Other McDonald’s offer pasta on its menu.
Philippines: McRice Burger
Interesting enough, in the Philippines, you can get sticky rice patties to hold your burger or chicken. It is kind of like a beef or chicken sushi roll, a meat patty, with all the toppings, except it is cabbage instead of lettuce. All of these are placed between two sticky rice patties, topped with white and black sesame seeds.
Turkey: Chocolate Orange Pie
Planning to go to Istanbul, Turkey for vacation? If you are, must add Chocolate Orange Pie on the to-do-list. Try this fried pie oozing orange and chocolate filling. Just simply, yum!
